What is CHAS?
The CHAS health and safety assessment scheme is a pre-approval scheme to allow contractors to show potential clients that they meet the required health and safety standards.
The main purpose of CHAS is to avoid repeated applications by suppliers and contractors to become approved as local authority suppliers and to improve health and safety in small to medium sized businesses. Whilst the CHAS assessment scheme is a local authority and government backed scheme, it can be used by any organisation looking to short list suppliers and contractors and can save time and money for all parties.
How do I become CHAS approved?
You can of course make the application yourself. But the process is lengthy and there is a high chance of being declined if you have no experience of the application process and or your health and safety program is not up to standard.

Why Manage Health and Safety?
Morally - by looking after your employees and keeping them safe.
Legally - by complying with the law and therefore avoiding prosecution.
Economically - by reducing sick pay, compensation payouts, insurance etc

Health & Safety Policy/Safety Management System (SMS) - Do you know what the law requires?
Section 2 (3) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 requires employers with 5 or more employees to prepare and revise as necessary a written Health and Safety Policy.

Safety Solutions can help you prepare or revise and implement your company health and safety policy.
The key benefits of Safety Solutions assisting with your health and safety policy are:
• Complying with legal requirements.
• Your policy will demonstrate to your employees,
clients, stakeholders, insurers and the enforcing
authorities your commitment to health and safety.
• It may offer some protection against civil claims and
the no win, no fee claim culture.
• It can be used as a marketing tool.

The bespoke health and safety policies that we have prepared for our clients have been assessed and approved by many organisations including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Construction Line, The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) and various insurance companies.
