IOSH Strategic Health & Safety in the Police Service
IOSH Strategic Health & Safety in the Police Service
By its very nature the work of the Police service has always been hazardous. Police Officers are frequently exposed to risks, whether it is in operational situations, on station e.g. custody suite or during training.
It is a reality that each year a number of police officers are injured, some seriously and occasionally some make the ultimate sacrifice in their service to the public.
This course, which is accredited by Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), has been designed to develop the knowledge and understanding of safety legislation, risk assessment and management systems for key personnel including strategic managers, line managers and representatives within the Police Service.
The course covers the following areas:
- Health & Safety legislation and how we make it fit within our working environment and the legal requirements
- Reasons for managing safely including the key elements and the purpose of a health and safety management system
- Human factors, why people fail and the type of human errors and the impact of ergonomics in the working environment
- Principles and practice of risk assessment including the hierarchy of control and dynamic risk assessment
- Benefits of accident investigation and identifying ill-health
The course is run over 5 days and concludes with a dynamic risk assessment based exercise and a multi format assessment.
All delegates receive a course specific workbook and upon successful completion of the course are awarded the IOSH Strategic Health & Safety in the Police Service Certificate.
